A fully- accessible converted bus offering individuals and groups across Lincolnshire access to a sensory room and multi-sensory equipment hire, on their doorstep, at no cost.
Catering for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities, autism, dementia and other health conditions, the Linkage Sensory Bus and Library is a fantastic mobile service which makes it easier for individuals, organisations and schools to access, enjoy and gain real benefit from sensory resources and facilities.
We deliver sensory support to people and places it’s difficult to reach, helping to remove the financial and geographical barriers often involved in accessing services in fixed places.
Funded by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund this exciting free service has two parts:
1) A spectacular sensory room packed full of exciting hi-tech and low-tech sensory equipment. Transforming into a different theme every few weeks, we use coloured lights, sounds, projectors, aromatherapy diffusers, and a variety of sensory items to create immersive environments which are both fascinating and educational for the user. Perhaps they will enter into a wondrous under sea world, or an atmospheric jungle. Or perhaps they’ll find themselves in an extraordinary English country garden, with lots of sights, sounds, smells and textures to explore.
Our equipment includes Sound Beamz which enables users to make music by movement through laser beams. We also have fibre optics, projections, music equipment, mirror balls, interactive bubble tubes, switch systems, vibrating shapes, light cubes, and iPad applications.
The Linkage Sensory Bus is a truly flexible service. The room can be adapted and customised depending on needs; we can make it a relaxing and calming environment, or a highly stimulating and interactive space. Whoever the client, we work with them, their parents, family, carers, teachers or Occupational Therapists to create purposeful sensory experiences.
We can visit your school, care centre, or community group and offer taster days so clients, and those supporting them, can see what the bus is like before we visit once a week for 6 weeks. We are also available to attend roadshows and pre-arranged events in schools, special educational needs (SEN) units, disability/parent carer groups, respite care centres and dementia & palliative care centres throughout Lincolnshire.
2) A mobile sensory equipment library with a range of exciting resources available to borrow at no cost, including light/bubble tubes, vibrating cushions, star projectors, bag books, tactile toys, weighted blankets and musical instruments.
Library items can be loaned to individuals; families; carers; support workers; education and training settings; and health and social care providers, including those working in dementia and palliative care settings. Our aim is to encourage children, young people and adults to borrow equipment to discover what works for them. Our development workers will show you how the equipment works and deliver and collect equipment from across Lincolnshire.
