Running your event
If you’ve never run an event before and you’re wondering how to get started check out our top tips below.
What?
- Decide how you are going to raise money and more importantly what type of event
- Set a budget.
- Make a list of everything you need.
- If you’ll be approaching businesses for raffle prizes etc, contact us in advance and we can provide you with a letter of authority.
Not sure what event you’d like to host?
Where?
Selecting a venue depends on how many people you’re planning to invite.
If you intend to invite a few friends round for a small coffee morning or garden party, then your front room or back garden is the perfect place to start!
- Indoors or outdoors?
- Do you need to book a venue or plan a route?
- When researching venues ask if they are able to offer you a discount as you’re rising money for a charity.
- If you’re organising a large event with numerous people, confirm the venues public liability insurance to make sure it covers the owner’s liability risks.
When?
The timing of your event is entirely up to you, however we recommend:
- avoiding clashes with any local or national events, and
- contacting us to ensure representatives from Linkage can attend.
Who?
Think about who you will be inviting and how you’ll do it.
- Make a list of everyone you’d like to invite
- Choose an RSVP date, this will aid your planning and help you work out quantities for food, drink, raffle prizes etc.
- Don’t be afraid to ask friends, family and colleagues for help. They may have some great skills that they can contribute.
- Make the most of social media and online tools, its a great way to connect with people and advertise your event.
- Advertise for help from the local community or ask groups for support, e.g. the local Rotary or Lions Clubs.
Why?
Share why you’re putting on your event.
Explain what Linkage is, what we do, who we support, and why it’s important to you.
