Linkage College works in partnership with a number of employers to offer learners the opportunity to experience real working environments, through a combination of employability options including work experience and supported internships.
Our work experience team consists of job coaches who help learners build up their skills and experience, and an employer engagement assistant who finds suitable placements which are matched to their needs.
Where appropriate, personalised plans are put in place for each learner. Through information, advice and guidance (IAG) sessions and CV building, learners improve their employability skills and work to secure a meaningful and beneficial work placement.
Work experience is always viewed favourably by employers and can help you decide what sort of work you want to do in the future. The work experience can be from as little as two hours a week to a couple of days a week depending on the needs of student and the employer.
Supported internships are specifically aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 who have an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so. They usually last for fixed, limited period time but offer essential real-life experience that is highly sought after by employers.
If a learner is doing a supported internship we can assist both them and the employer to secure support from the Department for Work and Pensions’ Access to Work Scheme where needed.
