Jack Haywood, a Linkage College student based at our Weelsby Campus, has won the Environment award at the 2025 North East Lincoln SEND Awards.

Jack’s curiosity, teamwork, and love for the environment make him a true asset to his community and a role model for others, a truly deserving winner of the Environment award.

Jack is a passionate environmentalist with a green thumb and a big heart. A dedicated member of the horticulture team at Linkage College, he’s has been eager to learn about sustainable gardening and plants that can thrive in a changing climate.
Friendly, witty, and always ready to lend a hand, Jack supports his fellow Linkage students while continuing to grow his own skills.
His commitment extends beyond college, with support from the Linkage Employability team, he also contributes to the team at Grimsby Garden Centre, gaining valuable real-world experience.
The award was presented by ‘The Canoe River Cleaner,’ James Elliot. A local environmental champion who’s removed over 10 tonnes of waste from UK waterways, with just a canoe and a paddle – transforming rivers and inspiring communities.
His work goes beyond litter picking as James leads inclusive clean-up events, especially welcoming children with SEND, and promotes environmental awareness through schools and social media.

The SEND Awards celebrates the amazing children and young people with SEND in our local area alongside the unsung heroes who support them.
This annual event is great way to champion achievements both big and small, people doing extraordinary things and show what can be achieved when we help each other and work together.

Their website is a great resource to help parents, children and young people aged 0 to 25 years old, find information about specialist and targeted services and activities in North East Lincolnshire.

Fellow Linkage College students, Temperance and Oliver, were also in attendance to present the Friendship Award.
They presented the award to Zackary as active members of the NE Lincs SEND Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG), playing a key role in selecting this year’s award winners.
Their insight, empathy, and commitment continue to help ensure that the voices of young people with SEND are heard and valued.
Young People’s Advisory Group
The Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG) are a friendly and informal group of young people aged 12 to 19 years, from North East Lincolnshire who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
They meet regularly to chat, play games, and share their views on local services. They also help shape the local SEND offer and meet with guest speakers to give feedback on how to improve support for young people in the area.
