Linkage’s Care Services owe their origins to the recognition that, for many young people with varying degrees of learning difficulty, there is a shortage of appropriate support for them to lead creative and purposeful lives in the community. This has been evident to Linkage for many years, as it has applied to a small, though significant number of young people when they have completed their further education courses at our college.
Linkage has been running residential care homes in the Lincolnshire area since 1992. Each home provides 24-hour care and supervision to ex-students from our college. Each home is for the sole occupation of the service users living there and service users are offered places on the basis of their likely compatibility and shared interests and experience, frequently having known each other at college.
During the day, service users access our Employment Services which operate throughout the East Lindsey District of Lincolnshire, Lincoln and Grimsby, offering occupational, recreational and employment training and work placements including gardening, horticulture, information technology, catering, painting and decorating, art and creative activities. In addition the Employment Services team support work experience at the Sir Joseph Banks Centre which is a retail outlet selling craftwork in Horncastle, and a gardening and maintenance programme which all offer employment and training opportunities to many young people under the appropriate disability regulations.
