Admissions to Employment
Admissions to Employment
Admission onto Employment Service courses and training programmes can be arranged through internal links when service users move into residential care or by external agencies and carers looking for external day placements for people with a learning disability.
Residential Care Service Users
- A Care manager will approach the Employment Service manager responsible for course availability.
- An appointment is made for the service user to visit all the sites to see what is on offer and meet the staff and service users.
- Informal discussions will take place to establish interests and preferred choices, and availability on courses will be checked.
- If a place is available of the preferred choices instructors will offer a 6 week taster period to enable the service user and the instructor to decide if the placement is suitable. At this point either party can decide if they no longer wish to go ahead with the placement.
- Once the placement is agreed a formal interview will take place and a permanent place offered. Generally speaking service users will attend courses/training for three days each week.
External Day Learners
- Employment Services manager will be contacted by the family/carer, local learning disability team or funding agency.
- An Initial meeting is arranged to establish the service user’s requirements. This will include an assessment of their ability/disability, support requirements, and the courses/training they think they might be interested in.
- A visit to all the sites is arranged (if appropriate) and further discussions about preferred choices then takes place.
- Availability and source of funding will be established.
- A package will be agreed and once funding is in place a contract will be issued for the placement to commence.
